With standout performances and a symbolic onstage moment, Brazilian music launches the Brazil-China Cultural Year in Shanghai.
For a few days, Shanghai didn’t just host a festival — it absorbed the pulse of Brazilian music. The Plataforma Música Brasil marked the opening of the Brazil-China Cultural Year 2026 with a vibrant presence at the JZ Spring Festival, one of Asia’s leading jazz and contemporary music events.
Across three simultaneous stages, audiences experienced a wide spectrum of Brazilian sounds. Artists such as Adriana Calcanhotto, Ivan Lins, Hamilton de Holanda, Luedji Luna, Silvero Pereira, and Josyara showcased the depth and diversity of today’s MPB.
The defining moment, however, came unexpectedly. Brazil’s Minister of Culture, Margareth Menezes, stepped away from official duties and onto the stage at JZ Club. Singing alongside Adriana Calcanhotto and others, she turned the performance into a living symbol of cultural diplomacy.
The initiative extended beyond concerts. Open masterclasses created direct exchanges with Chinese audiences, while meetings with journalists and digital influencers helped amplify Brazil’s cultural presence across local media landscapes.
Meanwhile, Brazilian Day brought together expatriates and locals, blending celebration with identity and shared curiosity. It added a human layer to an already rich cultural exchange.
Behind the scenes, the project reflects strong institutional collaboration. Plataforma Música Brasil is led by Brazil’s Ministry of Culture alongside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Funarte, Embratur, and Instituto Guimarães Rosa, with sponsorship from Petrobras, Sebrae, BNDES, and Caixa.
In Shanghai, Brazilian music proved once again that it travels far — not just geographically, but emotionally and culturally.
