An orchestra on stage and samba at full scale: Diogo Nogueira opens “Infinito Samba” in Rio on 03/01 at Farmasi Arena. The anniversary tour celebrates 20 years of his career with a show designed to connect samba’s deep roots to a forward-looking stage language. In Rio de Janeiro, “Infinito Samba” is presented by Brazil’s Ministry of Culture, Petrobras and Riotur. The Infinito Samba project is presented by the Ministry of Culture and Petrobras through the Federal Cultural Incentive Law, and produced by Orin Produções and PECK. In Rio, Riotur also supports the project launch, the premiere performance and the closing event at Parque Madureira.
Where tradition meets tomorrow
Often described as a bridge between classic samba and what comes next, Diogo Nogueira has become a key voice in contemporary Brazilian popular music. In “Infinito Samba,” that story turns into an immersive experience—music, arrangements and visual design working together while keeping a firm commitment to traditional samba. For the Rio date, Diogo takes the stage with his band and a large orchestra. Built to translate samba’s swing and emotion into a modern frame, the lineup delivers fresh arrangements and a richer sonic palette.
“Choosing the repertoire was a dive as sentimental and emotional as it was historical. Samba is so vast it’s like a multiverse, able to speak to every dimension of Brazil.”
That’s how artistic director Rafael Dragaud describes the process. The setlist blends major hits from Diogo’s career, heartfelt reinterpretations honoring his influences, and brand-new songs. The musical script also shifts moods like chapters. It moves through love songs, nods to gafieira dance halls, and moments shaped to feel like a roda—bringing the audience closer to the communal pulse that defines samba culture.
LED architecture and a circle of ancestry
“Infinito Samba” also leans heavily on visuals. Set design, lighting and costumes aim for impact, anchored by LED architecture and a scenic concept that highlights circularity—heritage as both origin and return.Dragaud says references are just the starting engine, while emotion dictates the final choices: “In terms of inspirations, they’re a starting point to be mixed in a big cauldron. What really shapes the paths and decisions is the emotion the music must deliver. Concepts only take you so far—they help begin the creative trip, but at a certain point they become scaffolding. You build the building, then you remove them.”The tour also underlines a defining trait of Diogo’s career: he refuses to stand still. While honoring his lineage—he is the son of João Nogueira—he keeps expanding his sound, treating samba as a living language rather than a museum piece.
