“bandera blanca,” a confessional piano ballad about losing a friendship, is the lead single from Giulia Be‘s new trilingual EP project.
Losing a friendship can hurt just as much as losing a romantic partner. That is the emotional core of “bandera blanca”, the lead single from Giulia Be‘s new EP “GIULIA BE (español)”, now available on all streaming platforms with seven tracks, four of which are brand new.
A white flag of peace, not surrender
Over a sparse piano arrangement, the 26-year-old artist turns vulnerability into art. The song was born from the recognition that, when a connection fades, holding on no longer makes sense. Giulia explained the meaning behind the central metaphor:
“For a long time I felt bad about a friendship that ended, but I couldn’t hate that person because there was so much love in everything we shared. Someone had to be practical and understand that silence and distance were the best path forward. This is my white flag: a gesture of peace, not defeat. In the end, it’s really about forgiving yourself so you can move on.” — Giulia Be
Grammy-nominated production
The track was produced by Jeff Shum, a Grammy-nominated producer and sound engineer based in Los Angeles, with credits alongside Demi Lovato, Ella Mai, and John Legend, among others. Shum also contributed to the soundtrack of the series Euphoria with the track “Hot,” co-produced with Mark Ronson.
A seaside video about healing alone
The music video, directed by Olivia Mucida, Lennyn Salinas, and Giulia Be herself, is as confessional as the song. Seated at a piano by the sea, bathed in blue nocturnal light, the artist delivers a performance of raw vocal power and total emotional commitment. In another sequence, she holds a white flag, bringing the song’s central metaphor to life on screen.
The absence of other people in the video is deliberate. Healing, above all else, is a solitary act.
Three EPs, three languages, 21 songs
“GIULIA BE (español)” features seven tracks: singles “bye bye bahia”, “tonta”, “grillos”, and “bandera blanca”, plus the new songs “bebecito”, “perder el vuelo”, and one track yet to be revealed. Each song will be accompanied by an official music video, to be released in the coming weeks.
This is the first of three planned EPs. The Portuguese EP arrives in May and the English one in June, each also featuring seven tracks and brand-new videos. All 21 songs will later be compiled into a full album, expected in the second half of 2026.
A Latin Grammy® nominee for Best New Artist, Giulia Be describes the full project as “three hearts in 21 songs,” with each language carrying a personal connection to her roots, memories, and life experiences.
