With Vânia Bastos and Miltinho Edilberto, Grupo Realejo plays Sesc 24 de Maio on April 17, revisiting Brazil’s independent music legacy.
Founded in 1981 in São José do Rio Preto, Grupo Realejo became part of Brazil’s independent music scene through appearances at MPB festivals in the 1980s and 1990s. This new concert brings that history back into focus while opening space for fresh exchanges on stage.
The performance starts at 8 p.m. on April 17 at the theater of Sesc 24 de Maio in São Paulo. After resuming activities in 2019, the group returns with Marcelo Quadros on keyboards, Joãozinho Pazzini on bass, Hamilton Thomé on drums and Rogério Siri on winds.
Grupo Realejo brings generations together
The setlist reflects the sound identity of Grupo Realejo, blending Brazilian rhythms with arrangements shaped by the spirit of song festivals. At the same time, the guest appearances expand that journey and underline the group’s place in a wider musical conversation.
Singer Vânia Bastos, a landmark name of São Paulo’s avant-garde scene, joins the concert alongside singer-songwriter Miltinho Edilberto, known for his work in regional music and forró. As a result, the show creates a dialogue between distinct strands of Brazil’s independent music over the past decades.
Sesc 24 de Maio hosts the concert
Beyond the reunion on stage, the concert highlights a repertoire designed to revisit the band’s path without sounding nostalgic alone. For that reason, the event may appeal both to longtime followers of MPB festivals and to newer listeners interested in Brazil’s independent music tradition.
