From Ito Melodia to Farofa Carioca, Teatro Rival Petrobras lines up samba, feijoada and musical theater in downtown Rio.
The venue’s April 12 to 17 schedule brings together four acts with different styles but a shared connection to Brazilian music. Ito Melodia appears twice, while Farofa Carioca returns for a symbolic celebration and Flávia Santana closes the week with a sharp musical monologue.
Teatro Rival Petrobras opens with samba feast
On Sunday, April 12, the house hosts Feijoada do Rival with Ito Melodia and his samba circle. A five-time Estandarte de Ouro winner as Best Carnival Lead Singer, he brings samba classics, original songs such as “A cigana” and “Amor de pai,” plus famous samba-enredos.
The event runs from 1 pm to 5:30 pm with sponsorship from Granfino. Just as important, the ticket includes both the live show and the feijoada.
Ito Melodia returns with inclusion-driven musical
On April 14, Ito Melodia returns to Teatro Rival Petrobras with “O Anjo Azul do Samba – O Musical.” Fully approved under Brazil’s Rouanet Law, the project connects samba-enredo and MPB in an artistic and social statement about inclusion and respect for people with autism spectrum disorder.
The performance alternates songs, instrumental passages and guest appearances. One central highlight is “Sou artista de um mundo solidário,” a song that sums up the show’s emotional and social core.
Farofa Carioca marks 28 years
On Thursday, April 16, Farofa Carioca takes the stage in one of the week’s most symbolic nights. The band celebrates 28 years of cultural resistance, revives the album “Moro no Brasil,” reissued digitally last year, and unveils a new track.
The concert also opens a new chapter with the return of singers Gabriel Moura and Mario Broder. The setlist blends band classics, covers and songs such as “Moro no Brasil,” “Bebel,” “Doidinha,” “São Gonça,” “Jacaré” and “A lei da bala,” backed by a 12-piece big band, DJ Mohamed Malok and VJ Ricardo Muralha.
Flávia Santana revisits love through MPB
Closing the week, on April 17, Flávia Santana presents “Como a MPB acabou com a minha vida amorosa”. Written and directed by Renata Mizrahi, with musical direction by João Callado, the show turns Brazil’s romantic songbook into a witty reckoning with emotional expectations.
The monologue uses songs such as “Beija eu,” “Mentiras,” “Sozinho,” “Tenha calma” and “Só hoje” to examine idealized love, toxic relationships and impossible promises of happiness. In the end, the audience helps create a new song, one freed from toxic romanticism.
