At Casa de Mystérios, Simone Sou pays tribute to her mentor Robertinho Silva with “The Poet of the Drums”, donating all proceeds to the legendary musician.
On March 1 at 6 p.m., Brazilian percussionist and drummer Simone Sou takes the stage in Rio’s Casa de Mystérios with the show “The Poet of the Drums”, a heartfelt homage to her mentor Robertinho Silva. All revenue will support the artist’s recovery and legacy.
Robertinho himself joins the performance, alongside Gustavo Souza (drums), Pedro Lima (percussion), and Lelena Anhaia (bass). The repertoire combines original pieces, rhythmic improvisations, and sonic tributes to the legendary percussionist.
“It will be an electrifying percussive performance,” says Simone Sou, who first met Robertinho in the 1990s during a drumming class.
The two have collaborated on multiple projects over the years, including a cultural exchange in Réunion Island (2003) and the experimental percussion album “Batucajé” (2004). They reunited in 2018 for a duo of percussive improvisations in Rio and again in 2022 at Sesc Pompeia, São Paulo.
“A Toque de Caixa” Series
The concert launches the “A Toque de Caixa” series, which will feature music, dance, theater, and opera at Casa de Mystérios, curated by Pedro Lima and directed by Ligia Veiga from the Grande Companhia Brasileira de Mystérios e Novidades.
