The eighth episode of Pesadelo na Cozinha — Brazil’s version of the British format Kitchen Nightmares — delivers the most heated confrontation of the season. Airing this Tuesday (14) at 10:30 PM on Band, the episode follows chef Erick Jacquin as he visits the restaurant Pátio, located in the Tremembé neighborhood in São Paulo’s north zone.
A kitchen that crosses the line
From the moment he steps inside, Jacquin is struck by the lack of identity in the space. “It’s very far from being good, but there’s a dish you can eat,” he says at first. But once he enters the kitchen, his tone shifts entirely.
The stove may be old, but it needs to be cleaned. This has never been washed. It’s disrespectful to the customers, to the staff, and to me because they let me taste that garbage. If the health inspectors showed up here, everyone would go to jail.
Jacquin throws dried meat onto the counter and demands the owners taste what they have been serving their customers. The scene sets the tone for an episode defined by raw confrontation.
Owner pushes back, chef nearly walks
Francisco and Cilmara Baptista have run Pátio for five years. Their hope is that their son Henrique will eventually take an active role in the business — but his lack of interest compounds the restaurant’s daily struggles.
When Francisco refuses to accept Jacquin’s criticism and pushes back, the French chef reaches his breaking point.
I want to leave. It’s like I’m just some guy who comes here to clean his restaurant.
The standoff reduces Francisco to tears. “It’s hard to hear someone criticize something you’ve dedicated yourself to,” he says.
Chaos in the dining room raises the stakes
During service, Jacquin invites a group of guests to watch food preparation up close. The move creates even more friction among the kitchen team and raises serious doubts about whether the restaurant can be saved.
