At 79, Zezé Motta stars as the head nurse in ‘(In)Vulneráveis’, a powerful Brazilian medical drama premiering on Universal TV.
Debuting on March 1 at 10 p.m., ‘(In)Vulneráveis’ is a four-part medical procedural set in a public emergency care unit in Rio de Janeiro. The show follows nurses who battle daily to care for patients while balancing personal and professional challenges in Brazil’s public health system.
Directed by Renata Di Carmo, who also co-wrote the script, the series sheds light on the crucial yet often overlooked role of nursing. “Bringing nurses to the spotlight shifts the narrative. Their importance became unmistakable during the pandemic,” says the director.
The story centers on Regina (Zezé Motta), an experienced head nurse who refuses to retire despite growing pressure from Dr. Camila (Danni Suzuki) and the director Daniel (Felipe Rocha). She must also guide three new nurses — Lorena (Simone Cerqueira), Mercedes (Jade de Axé), and Keyla (Júlia Tizumba) — each facing her own emotional hurdles.
The three actresses earned their roles through the E! Entertainment reality show No Jogo, which featured a dynamic casting process that deeply influenced the fictional universe of the series.
‘(In)Vulneráveis’ is co-produced by NBCUniversal and Jabuti Filmes, written by Ceci Alvez, Renata Di Carmo, and Susan Kalik. The ensemble cast also includes Leandro Firmino, Francisco Farnum, José Araújo, Lais Lage, and Vitória Fallavena.
