With 12.37 million passengers, Brazil’s air sector records the biggest month in history and expects the best Carnival ever.
Brazilian civil aviation started 2026 on a historic high. According to data from the Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor) and the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac), January reached an all-time record of 12.37 million passengers, confirming the sector’s strong recovery and growth.
Of that total, 9.3 million traveled on domestic routes — a level not seen since 2020 — while 2.9 million flew internationally, the best result since records began in 2000.
“The January numbers and Carnival forecast show we’re on the right track, with Brazilian aviation breaking records and driving tourism and economic development nationwide,” said Minister Silvio Costa Filho.
Estimates from MPor suggest that between February 13 and 18 — the Carnival period — around 2.1 million passengers will travel domestically and internationally, a year-over-year increase of 10% to 11%. If confirmed, it will mark the most successful Carnival season in aviation history.
National Civil Aviation Secretary Daniel Longo emphasized that the growth reflects stronger connectivity and regional network expansions. “The sector is becoming more competitive, more accessible, and fully prepared to keep expanding,” he noted.
