Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro receives the global Green Key certification for its sustainable energy, water, and environmental management initiatives.
Nestled between Barra da Tijuca Beach and Marapendi Lagoon, the Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro has achieved a new milestone in sustainability: the prestigious Green Key seal, awarded to properties committed to excellence in environmental responsibility.
The hotel already held the PBE Edifica (Procel) certification with a top “A” efficiency rating, both in design and operation. This recognition highlights its rational energy use and adoption of 100% renewable energy from the free market to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Key initiatives include intelligent air-conditioning systems, water reuse for irrigation, biodiversity protection in nearby natural reserves, and a broad environmental impact reduction plan.
“Receiving the Green Key seal is recognition of a consistent, structured effort toward sustainability,” said Alexandra Bueno, the hotel’s General Manager.
Since its opening, Grand Hyatt Rio has held the LEED construction certification and follows Hyatt’s global World of Care framework, with 2030 goals focused on climate, water, plastic reduction, and sustainable events. Its daily operations include recycling programs, certified laundry products, and social initiatives such as beach clean-ups and community donations.
Urban resort facilities
The second Hyatt property in Brazil, Grand Hyatt Rio features 436 rooms, the Japanese restaurant Shiso, Cantô Gastrô & Lounge, and the Tano breakfast space. The resort also offers over 2,000 m² of event facilities, the Atiaia Spa & Fitness, an outdoor pool, and a Kids Club.
