Florence has gained a new landmark rooted in centuries of history. The Porta Rossa Hotel Firenze has reopened as the first property of the Colbert Collection, a new brand by Minor Hotels, bringing new life to a building first recorded in 1386.
A property shaped by history
Located on Via Porta Rossa in the historic center, the hotel occupies what may be the oldest operating hospitality building in Italy. Once a meeting place for silk merchants, it has evolved through Renaissance and 19th-century transformations.
Following a full renovation, the property reemerges as a boutique hotel that preserves its architectural heritage while introducing contemporary design. Its iconic red door and the “Per non dormire” motto remain defining features.
Rooms with identity
The hotel offers 69 rooms and suites designed as intimate spaces inspired by Renaissance palaces. Upholstered headboards, rich fabrics, and a palette of leather and mineral tones create a refined atmosphere.
Six signature suites stand out, each telling a story. The Amici Miei fresco suite references the iconic Italian film, while the Bartolini suite features 18th-century frescoes covering walls and ceilings.
A medieval tower stay
The Torre Monalda Signature Suite offers one of the most distinctive experiences. Set in a 13th-century tower, it provides panoramic 360-degree views over Florence.
Original vaulted ceilings and frescoed walls are preserved and complemented by subtle contemporary updates, creating a seamless blend of past and present.
Social spaces and cuisine
The hotel’s common areas reflect the Colbert Collection’s concept of “the art of gathering.” The lobby is designed as a modern piazza, with custom furniture and lighting inspired by Florentine lanterns.
A new restaurant concept by Michelin-starred chef Paulo Airaudo will launch in June, focusing on refined interpretations of local flavors under the philosophy “Local roots. Italian soul.”
Strategic location and vision
Steps away from landmarks such as the Arno River, Ponte Vecchio, the Duomo, and the Uffizi Gallery, the hotel offers direct access to Florence’s cultural core. It also caters to small-scale meetings with two rooms accommodating up to 40 guests.
According to Gonzalo Aguilar, CEO of Minor Hotels Europe & Americas, the property embodies the brand’s philosophy of individuality and strong local connection.
Brand expansion plans
Launched earlier this year, the Colbert Collection brings together independent hotels focused on art and gastronomy. Upcoming openings include The WestDill Mayfair Hotel London in late 2026 and Colbert Collection Koh Samui in early 2027.
To celebrate the launch, Minor DISCOVERY members will receive double DISCOVERY Dollars starting in June, enhancing value across future stays and experiences.
With more than 640 properties across 66 countries, Minor Hotels reinforces its global strategy with a brand centered on cultural connection and distinctive identity.
