Iguaçu National Park ranked 3rd in a global TUI Musement list of the most popular UNESCO World Natural Heritage parks, based on Google reviews.
Iguaçu National Park, home to the world-famous Iguaçu Falls, is the only Brazilian destination to appear on a ranking of the 10 most popular parks among those recognized as UNESCO World Natural Heritage Sites. The list was compiled by travel platform TUI Musement, which used visitor ratings on Google as its main criterion.
The Brazilian park secured third place with nearly 70,000 reviews and an average rating of 4.8 stars. Ahead of it are Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia, which tops the list with a 4.9 rating, and Iguazú National Park in Argentina in second place with a 4.8 rating. Both leading parks have accumulated just over 100,000 reviews each.
A World Heritage Site for decades
The parks on both the Brazilian and Argentine sides of the falls were declared UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the 1980s. In 2011, the 275 waterfalls — the largest waterfall system on the planet — were named one of the seven natural wonders of the world.
Spanning 185,000 hectares, Iguaçu National Park contains one of the largest remaining stretches of Atlantic Forest in Brazil’s interior and is home to rich biodiversity, including endangered species. The conservation unit is managed by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio), while tourist operations are run by Urbia+Cataratas.
Expanding the visitor experience
In recent years, investments have focused on broadening what visitors can experience inside the park. Options now include hiking trails, cycling tours, and visits at special times of day, such as sunrise and sunset.
“Our work has been ongoing in strengthening Iguaçu National Park as one of the world’s top nature destinations. We want to go further and offer visitors increasingly diverse and immersive experiences that encourage longer stays through adventure, contemplation, and direct contact with our natural heritage. This ranking, built directly from tourists’ own perceptions, shows we are on the right track.” — Mario Macedo Junior, CEO of Urbia+Cataratas
The recognition follows earlier accolades. The Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best 2025 had already named Iguaçu National Park the top tourist attraction in Brazil and Latin America, cementing its reputation as a global benchmark for sustainable tourism.
