KLM’s Wi-Fi is now free on European routes, bringing always-on connectivity onboard after a Flying Blue login, as the rollout expands across the fleet.
KLM is introducing no-cost internet for passengers flying within Europe, a move aimed at one of the most common inflight requests: staying connected from takeoff to landing. The change starts on January 22, 2026 and is positioned as a meaningful upgrade to the short-haul travel experience.
Free Wi-Fi: what passengers can do onboard
With free access, travelers can send emails, browse the web and keep up with everyday apps. They can also stream music, play games, and watch films or series on their own devices, turning short flights into productive—or relaxing—time.
Gradual rollout across KLM’s European fleet
KLM says the rollout will happen gradually across most aircraft used on its European network. As of this Thursday, half of the European fleet already has the service available.
Over the coming years, Wi-Fi will be offered on all A321neo aircraft, Embraer 195-E2 jets, and on part of the B737-800 fleet. The plan targets a more consistent experience on high-frequency routes across Europe.
How to get free Wi-Fi (Flying Blue)
According to KLM, passengers get unlimited internet for the entire flight after logging in—or signing up—for Flying Blue. The airline frames this as a smoother, simpler alternative to paid tiers and restrictive caps that can frustrate short-haul flyers.
The move also addresses a practical detail: KLM’s European fleet does not have individual seatback entertainment screens. Free connectivity is meant to boost comfort by letting customers choose their own entertainment on a phone or laptop.
“We listened closely to what our passengers value, and free internet access has been among the top requests for some time.”
That’s according to Stephanie Putzeist, who leads customer experience at KLM. She says the initiative makes European trips more comfortable by allowing passengers to tailor their inflight experience while staying connected throughout the journey.
A321neo upgrades: comfort plus connectivity
KLM also ties the announcement to its fleet refresh. Since August last year, the airline has added 12 new A321neo aircraft dedicated to European destinations, featuring more modern, comfortable seats and onboard connectivity built in.
