A story that began at sea
The origin of Villa Canaã begins with another couple. Marcus and Simone, the original creators of the guesthouse, built the space from scratch, with direct involvement from their family and a level of care that still defines the property’s identity today. Every detail, from the structure to the decoration, was designed with the intention of offering more than shelter: offering memory.
Later, this legacy found new guardians. Paola, from Rio, and Ross, from England, met while working aboard a cruise ship. When they arrived in Búzios and saw Villa Canaã for the first time, they recognized in it a natural continuation of their own story. Since then, they have been running the guesthouse, alongside Paola’s Brazilian family.
“Villa Canaã is much more than a business for us. It is an extension of who we are — a celebration of Brazilian warmth and English charm, of peace, beauty and hospitality,” says Ross.
This combination of references appears less as a concept and more as an atmosphere. Guests describe the place as peaceful, welcoming and personal. It is not just a good stay; it is a feeling of belonging that helps explain why the guesthouse stands out in a city used to receiving visitors from all over the world.
Seven suites and a deliberate choice
The reduced scale is a central decision at Villa Canaã. There are only seven suites, designed to preserve privacy and closeness. That is why expanding the structure is not in the plans. Evolving, yes. Recently, the guesthouse opened a gym, updated televisions in all suites and renewed the furniture in the pool area. For the next steps, the couple is considering creating a small spa space and also a game room for rainy days.
The honesty bar
By the pool, a detail helps summarize the philosophy of the house. The bar operates on an honesty system: guests choose their drink from the refrigerator and write down what they consume in a notebook. There is no attendant or immediate checking. The gesture may seem simple, but it reveals a lot about the relationship of trust the guesthouse proposes.
In times of increasingly standardized experiences, this kind of practice stands out precisely because it feels out of time. Still, it makes sense in the context of Villa Canaã. Care there does not depend on surveillance, but on connection.

The guesthouse operates with 33 solar panels, a rainwater collection system for toilets and irrigation, and a pool with dark thermal ceramic coating that absorbs sunlight and eliminates the need for artificial heating.
The care extends to daily use. All suites have key-card energy control to avoid unnecessary consumption, and the use of disposable plastics is minimized. The result is an operation where environmental commitment moves beyond discourse and guides everyday routines.

The guesthouse attracts a variety of profiles, with a predominance of Brazilian tourists and a steady presence of travelers from neighboring South American countries. Couples seeking a शांत, intimate experience form the most frequent group. Not surprisingly, Villa Canaã has established itself as a destination for those who want to slow down without giving up personality.
