TV host Gardênia Cavalcanti debuts on the big screen in Daniel Porto’s “A MISS,” opening nationwide this Thursday (26).
The premiere took place Monday (23) at Estação NET Rio, in Botafogo (RJ), gathering cast members Pedro David, Alexandre Lino, Helga Nemetik, and Maitê Padilha—along with Gardênia herself, who makes a special cameo in the production.
In the film, Cavalcanti plays herself in a pivotal scene shot inside Band TV’s Vem Com a Gente studio, blending fiction and reality in a natural way. The casting choice gives authenticity to the story, connecting the host’s real-life career with her on-screen presence.
A dramedy about beauty and identity
Written and directed by Daniel Porto, “A MISS” explores family, gender, and self-acceptance through the lens of beauty pageants. The plot follows a former beauty queen who tries to relive her success through her daughter, while her son unexpectedly embraces the dream of the crown. The film balances humor and emotional depth, celebrating diversity and empathy.
After touring European festivals, the film now arrives in Brazilian theaters distributed by Olhar Filmes.
“Supporting Brazilian cinema means preserving our own story. Through it, we recognize ourselves and understand who we are as a people,” says Gardênia Cavalcanti.
Gardênia described the experience as joyful and inspiring: “It was such a fun experience, especially alongside this incredible cast. The film makes us think and laugh at the same time.”
