Awarded at Cannes for “The Secret Agent,” Kleber Mendonça Filho kicks off season two of “Filmmakers,” premiering on CurtaOn on March 1.
Brazilian director Kleber Mendonça Filho, who won Best Director at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival for “The Secret Agent,” opens the new season of the documentary series “Filmmakers.” The show premieres exclusively on CurtaOn, the Curta! documentary platform, on March 1. On the Curta! channel, the episode airs on April 29 at 9:30 p.m. as part of the “Scene and Cinema Wednesdays” slot.
In the episode, directed by Hermes Leal, Mendonça revisits his career highlights, including “Bacurau,” “Aquarius,” and “Neighboring Sounds.” The documentary also features interviews with collaborators such as Juliano Dornelles, Maeve Jinkings, Karine Teles, and producer Emilie Lesclaux.
“Genre cinema has power. The idea for ‘Bacurau’ came from our desire to make something completely wild,” says Kleber Mendonça Filho.
Over ten episodes, “Filmmakers” explores the creative processes of Brazil’s most acclaimed directors, their influences, and their passion for the seventh art. Guests include Laís Bodanzky, Walter Salles, Karim Aïnouz, Sandra Kogut, Anna Muylaert, Jeferson De, Lírio Ferreira, Andrucha Waddington, Julio Bressane, and João Batista de Andrade.
Produced by HL Filmes and funded by the Audiovisual Sector Fund (FSA), the new season also features episodes with Anna Muylaert and Gabriel Mascaro, whose “The Last Blue” earned him a major award at the 2025 Berlin Film Festival.
