At 5 AM, a couple faces impossible breakup in Ivan Viripaev’s A Linha Solar, Brazil premiere starring Carol Gonzalez and Chico Carvalho at CCBB SP.
This metaphysical, funny and cruel clash puts Barbara and Werner on stage in the Russian playwright’s work, marking its first Brazilian production. Conceived by Carol Gonzalez and directed by Marcelo Lazzaratto, it blends realism with absurd theater.
Published in 2018, the play uses humor to probe communication breakdowns mirroring global conflicts, as the author notes. Mobile chairs and lighting expose the couple’s emotional shadows.
The show starts realistic but shifts to absurd and surrealism as Viripaev unveils everyday violence and irrationality.
A parable of love’s struggle
Carol Gonzalez and Chico Carvalho drive the tense dialogue. Simone Mina’s set resembles a game board, enhanced by Eddu Ferreira’s sound design.
Training activities at CCBB
The project features an open rehearsal on April 25 and a production workshop on May 6, 13 and 14, covering grants like ProAC and Rouanet Law for peripheral groups.
