Premiering March 7 at Teatro Ziembinski, “The Healing of the Earth – Small Revolutions” turns Eliane Potiguara’s stories into a poetic act of resistance.
Produced by the Autonomous Indigenous Collective (CIA), the new musical is directed by Rafael Bacelar with Jessyca Meyreles as assistant director. Adapted from the book by Eliane Potiguara — Brazil’s first Indigenous writer — the show invites audiences of all ages into a journey of rediscovery and ancestral connection.
The story follows Moína, who learns from her grandmother about her people’s struggles and the wisdom that once healed the Earth. On stage, a rock band performs songs inspired by Latin American Indigenous revolutions. The play addresses climate emergency, cultural heritage, and intergenerational dialogue through music and performance.
The piece also incorporates the Apurinã language, spoken by actor Yumo Apurinã, linking art and education. “The presence of Indigenous bodies on stage is itself a celebration of life,” says director Rafael Bacelar.
“These small revolutions expand Potiguara’s legacy and renew the role of theater as a space for collective dreams.” – Rafael Bacelar
The show continues the artistic research that began with “Karaiba: An Original Musical,” acclaimed across Brazilian festivals. Bacelar emphasizes that this new production deepens the dialogue between art, politics, and education for all ages.
