Hit comedy “A Manhã Seguinte” with Carol Castro and Bruno Fagundes runs at Teatro VillaLobos, São Paulo, from January 9 to March 1.
After success in more than 10 countries, the comedy “A Manhã Seguinte”, by acclaimed British playwright Peter Quilter, arrives in Brazil in a new production and now lands in São Paulo. Following a praised debut in Rio de Janeiro and sold-out performances in Belo Horizonte, Curitiba, João Pessoa and Brasília, the show opens a season at Teatro VillaLobos, inside Shopping Villa Lobos, from January 9 to March 1, 2026, with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 6 pm.
The Brazilian staging of “A Manhã Seguinte” is a light, smart comedy filled with twists about unexpected encounters, unconventional families and the difficulty of dealing with feelings when nobody says what they truly feel. The cast features Carol Castro, Bruno Fagundes, Gustavo Mendes and Angela Rebello, under the direction of Thereza Falcão and Bel Kutner.
Unexpected encounters and a chaotic family
The story of “A Manhã Seguinte” presents an irresistible quartet: a shy young man, a determined woman, a blunt, outspoken mother and a brother with razor-sharp humor and no limits. Together, they turn any morning into a full-blown spectacle, in a comedy about affection, missteps and the beauty of improvising in life.
Directing “A Manhã Seguinte” means exploring, with humor and delicacy, the discomfort of the unexpected. The play is about real encounters – and especially about everything that remains unsaid.
In the plot, Kátia (Carol Castro) and Tomás (Bruno Fagundes) meet by chance and, the morning after, wake up in the same room, surrounded by doubts and awkwardness. The situation is already complicated, but things escalate when Kátia’s mother (Angela Rebello) suddenly appears, armed with strong opinions and absolutely no filter.
To make “A Manhã Seguinte” even more unpredictable, Márcio (Gustavo Mendes), Kátia’s brother, shows up with his over-the-top personality, always ready to steal the scene and push everything further out of control. The play suggests that life often begins only on the morning after, when people must face consequences, truths and long-hidden feelings.
The most beautiful aspect of this comedy is that it makes us laugh at what we really are: vulnerable, contradictory and human. It is a theatre of affection, lightness and truth.
