The Strokes release “Going Shopping” and confirm “Reality Awaits,” a new Rick Rubin-produced album due June 26 via Sony Music.
Four years after “The New Abnormal” (2020), the New York band returns with its seventh studio album. Recorded in Costa Rica and completed across studios in different countries, Reality Awaits signals a fresh creative chapter for the group.
At the same time, “Going Shopping” is now available on streaming platforms worldwide. The single offers the first official preview of the album and puts the band back into focus ahead of a major release cycle.
The visual identity is part of the story as well. The cover features “Untitled (Cowboy)” (1989) by Richard Prince, the same artwork tied to the imagery of the new single.
Reality Awaits brings The Strokes back into focus
Produced by Rick Rubin, the album arrives at a key moment for Julian Casablancas, Nick Valensi, Albert Hammond Jr., Nikolai Fraiture and Fabrizio Moretti. Since “Is This It” (2001), The Strokes have remained one of the defining names in modern alternative rock.
Now, Reality Awaits places the band at the center of the conversation again. In addition, the release lands alongside a heavy touring schedule that keeps the group visible on major festival stages.
Reality Awaits arrives during festival season
This spring and summer in the Northern Hemisphere, The Strokes are set for Coachella, Bonnaroo, Outside Lands and Summer Sonic 2026 in Japan. As a result, the album rollout connects directly with one of the busiest live periods on the band’s calendar.
