GSH Blood Bank Serum operates normally on November 15 and 20 and invites the public to donate blood and help save lives.
The GSH Blood Bank Serum will remain open during the holidays of November 15 (Proclamation of the Republic) and November 20 (Black Consciousness Day), from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at its Centro and Barra units, and from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Nova Iguaçu. The institution encourages solidarity with the message: “Use the holiday to donate blood and help save lives.”
A gesture that saves lives
Blood donations tend to decrease during holidays, while hospital demand remains high. “Taking an hour from your holiday to donate blood is an act of love that can save up to four lives,” says Laryssa Peres Leandro, head of donor recruitment at the blood bank.
Blood donation is quick, safe, and essential for surgeries, emergencies, and cancer treatments. All blood types are welcome. The institution also provides free transportation for groups of four or more people, with booking required three days in advance via WhatsApp at (21) 99695-7470.
Eligibility to donate
Donors must bring a valid photo ID, be between 16 and 69 years old (first donation before 60), weigh at least 50 kg, feel healthy, and have slept at least six hours. Avoid alcohol for 12 hours before donating and fatty foods beforehand. A 12-month wait is required after tattoos or piercings. Those recovering from a cold or flu should wait 7 days after symptoms end, and a 48-hour interval is needed after flu vaccination.
