Two million people packed Copacabana Beach as Shakira broke the record for the largest crowd ever gathered for a Hispanic artist in history.
Saturday night, May 2nd, belonged to Rio de Janeiro — and to Shakira. Two million people flooded Copacabana Beach, the boardwalk, and Avenida Atlântica for a free concert that the city’s administration confirmed as the largest crowd ever assembled for a Hispanic artist. Spectators who couldn’t find a spot on the sand watched from apartment balconies, hotel rooftops, and boats anchored just offshore.
Before Shakira even took the stage, the sky told the story. Over 1,500 drones from Studio DRIFT — the largest drone formation ever staged in Brazil — traced the shape of a giant wolf above the beach, prompting millions to howl together into the warm Rio night. It was a preview of what was to come.
Brazil Takes the Stage
The night became something far bigger than a solo concert. A string of iconic Brazilian artists joined Shakira throughout the show, turning the performance into a cultural celebration. She danced with Anitta on their new collaboration Choka Choka, sang the classic Leãozinho with Caetano Veloso, led a two-million-strong singalong with Maria Bethânia on O Que É, O Que É, welcomed the percussion battery of samba school Unidos da Tijuca to the stage, and reunited with Ivete Sangalo for País Tropical.
In another milestone moment, Shakira performed Can’t Remember to Forget You live for the very first time — a song fans had been requesting for years that had never appeared in any of her previous setlists.
Tonight I sang surrounded by millions. I saw mothers, daughters, women who hold up the world without losing their joy. This was for you. Thank you, Rio. — Shakira
Throughout the concert, Shakira repeatedly stopped to address the Brazilian crowd directly, making it clear that her bond with the country runs deep. The audience responded in kind — two million voices singing every word, every chorus, every bridge.
Built for Scale
Sixteen viewing towers were erected along the beach — stretching from the main stage all the way to Avenida Princesa Isabel — each fitted with speakers, lighting rigs, and 9-meter LED screens. The concert was broadcast live on TV Globo, Multishow, and streaming platform Globoplay.
“Once again, the world had its eyes on Rio de Janeiro, watching this historic night as Shakira brought the full force of Latin culture to the most iconic open-air stage on earth,” said Luiz Oscar Niemeyer, partner at Bonus Track, the event’s producer.
“Todo Mundo no Rio is our commitment to always work toward a better Rio de Janeiro — a city where culture and entertainment are free and democratic. We’re already thinking about the future,” added Luiz Guilherme Niemeyer, also a Bonus Track partner.
The event was presented by Corona and sponsored by the Rio de Janeiro State Government and the City of Rio. Official partners included Santander Brasil, LATAM Airlines, C&A, 99, Beats, Guaraná Antarctica, Zé Delivery, Google Gemini, Dove Aerosol, Deezer, Shakira Perfume, Jeep, and Ingresse. ProColombia supported the event and Klefer served as a commercial partner.
