Garibaldi inaugurates a monument and hosts cultural activities for the 150 years of Italian immigration at the Municipal Museum.
Rio Grande do Sul marks in 2025 an emblematic milestone of its cultural formation: the 150 years of Italian immigration. Among the official celebrations, Garibaldi promotes on November 22 a special program at the Municipal Museum, highlighting the heritage that shaped the identity of the Serra Gaúcha region.
The initiative, organized by the Municipality of Garibaldi through the Department of Tourism and Culture, aims to honor the trajectory of the first colonizers who, starting in 1875, transformed the region’s winemaking, cuisine, language and traditions.
Starting at 4 p.m., the Municipal Museum becomes a meeting point for generations, featuring musical performances, theater, traditional gastronomy and the presence of the city’s symbolic sparkling wine.
“By bringing together art and history, Garibaldi invites all of Rio Grande do Sul to celebrate the contribution of Italian immigrants to the State’s cultural formation and to value a legacy that remains alive in every community. This is a moment of recognition and gratitude to the families who, generation after generation, keep traditions alive, create opportunities and strengthen the identity of our Serra Gaúcha,” highlights Mayor Sérgio Chesini.
Monument to the immigrants
The event will also mark the unveiling of a work dedicated to Italian immigrants. Created by artist Ruy Stefani, the piece represents elements of the journey made by the colonizers from Italy to the gaucho lands, bringing references to time, collective construction and the values left as legacy.
The monument also honors Giuseppe and Anita Garibaldi, reinforcing ideals of freedom, courage and belonging.
The installation integrates the efforts of the Special Commission for the Sesquicentennial of Italian Immigration, formed by the communities of the historic Colônia Conde D’Eu, and reinforces the commitment to preserve and disseminate immigrant memory throughout the State.
Complete program:
4 p.m. – Opening protocol
4:30 p.m. – Stella D’Italia Choir
5 p.m. – First mass in Italian, with Coro Elo Sonoro
