A pillar of Italian giallo cinema
Widely regarded as Argento’s finest work, Suspiria is a defining title of the giallo — the Italian genre blending psychological thriller and horror that flourished from the 1960s through the 1980s. The film is celebrated for its hypnotic use of saturated color and its iconic score, composed by Argento and progressive rock band Goblin.
The cast features prominent names from European cinema, including Stefania Casini, Miguel Bosé, Barbara Magnolli, Alida Valli (1921–2006), and a special appearance by Udo Kier (1944–2025). Jessica Harper, also known for Brian De Palma’s cult classic “Phantom of the Paradise” (1974), leads the film with haunting intensity.
A meticulous restoration
The video and English audio restoration was carried out by German laboratory TLEFilms Film Restoration & Preservation. The original 35 mm elements showed significant damage — tears, scratches, and stains — all of which were carefully corrected through digital restoration, preserving the visual integrity of Argento’s original vision.
Brazil’s first official VHS release
To mark the occasion, horror fans are in for a rare treat: for the first time ever, Suspiria will receive an official VHS release in Brazil. The run is strictly limited to 100 copies, available from April 23 exclusively through the online stores FAMDVD, The Originals, and Bazani Geek Store.
The release is spearheaded by FJ Cines, a legendary Brazilian distributor that pioneered the horror VHS market in the 1980s and 1990s. With this theatrical return, the company makes its comeback to national cinema distribution after years focused on special screenings and licensing.
