HBO confirms a Rouge docuseries: Aline, Fantine, Karin and Lu reclaim the story with never-before-shared backstage memories—no release date yet.HBO has announced a new documentary series revisiting Rouge, one of Brazil’s defining pop phenomena of the 2000s. The production is currently filming, and no premiere date has been set.The project brings together Aline Wirley, Fantine Thó, Karin Hils and Lu Andrade to share—publicly and on record for the first time—their own version of the group’s rise, rupture and legacy. The series promises intimate recollections, emotion, and behind-the-scenes stories that haven’t been told before.
From Popstars to instant fame
The docuseries traces the story back to its origin: the audition process and formation on ‘Popstars’ (SBT, 2002). From there, it follows the group’s rapid ascent and the cultural footprint Rouge left on an entire generation.Rouge was formed in 2002 in partnership with Sony Music, at a time when the global music industry was dominated by youth pop groups like the Spice Girls, Destiny’s Child, Backstreet Boys and N’Sync. In Brazil, Rouge became a pop milestone.
Sales, tours and mainstream reach
According to the announcement, Rouge sold around 6 million copies and earned three gold records, three platinum records and one double-platinum certification from Pro-Música Brasil. The group also filled arenas on tour, led major ad campaigns, appeared in audiovisual productions and launched licensed merchandise lines.
The breakup—and telling it in their own words
In 2006, the group came to an end amid controversies and disagreements. Nearly 20 years later, the series shifts the spotlight to the artists themselves, framing the story through pain, growth and hard-won victories.
Awarded creators and production partners
The docuseries is directed by Tatiana Issa, who also serves as executive producer alongside Guto Barra. The duo previously worked on titles including PACTO BRUTAL: O ASSASSINATO DE DANIELLA PEREZ, BATEAU MOUCHE: O NAUFRÁGIO DA JUSTIÇA and UM TANTO FAMILIAR COM PEDRO ANDRADE, with 12 Emmy nominations and three wins, according to the release. The documentary series is co-produced by Producing Partners and Warner Bros. Discovery. On Warner Bros. Discovery’s side, supervision is credited to Mariano César, Sergio Nakasone, Adriana Cechetti and Marina Pedral.Foto: Kelly Fuzaro
