Starting seventh, Brazilian driver Jeff Giassi climbed to third at Porsche Carrera Cup Brasil and now trails the championship leader by just 12 points.
Santa Catarina native Jeff Giassi is having the best run of his career in the 2026 season. This past Sunday (March 29), he finished third in Race 2 of the Sprint championship at the Velocitta circuit, in Mogi Guaçu, São Paulo state, Brazil — further strengthening his position in the Porsche Carrera Cup Brasil standings.
The race unfolded at a breathtaking pace from the very first corner. Starting in seventh, Giassi moved up to fourth immediately and crossed the finish line of the opening lap in third place. He held that position to the flag despite intense pressure throughout.
Strategy beats raw power
Championship leader Marçal Müller was right on Giassi’s tail with more activations of the push-to-pass button available — a significant technical advantage. Giassi’s response was calculated and precise, deploying his own activations at exactly the right moments to keep the rival at bay.
“Marçal Müller, the championship leader, was right behind me. He had far more push-to-pass activations, but I made up for it with a well-executed strategy, using them at the right moments. Finishing ahead of him was key to closing the gap in the standings, which is now just 12 points. I’m very much alive in this fight — let’s go!” — Jeff Giassi
First race at Velocitta — and already on the podium
The result carries extra significance: it was Giassi’s first competitive race at Velocitta as a driver. He already knew the circuit from his role as one of Porsche Brazil’s seven official instructor drivers, and that familiarity proved to be a genuine edge over rivals encountering the track for the first time as competitors.
The 2026 season has been consistently strong. Giassi won the season opener at Interlagos on March 1, and this latest podium pushes him to third in the overall standings — well within striking distance of the title.
Next stop: Le Mans
With little time to celebrate, Giassi is already locking in preparation for one of motorsport’s most iconic venues: Le Mans, France, on June 11 and 13. The legendary circuit is long, technical, and allows fewer practice laps — a combination that demands thorough preparation.
“I’m starting my preparation immediately. It’s a very technical and demanding race on a long track with fewer practice laps. I’ll step up my simulator work, watch videos, study the layout in depth, and keep my physical conditioning sharp. See you soon at Le Mans!” — Jeff Giassi
